Physical Care Leads to Self-Esteem and a Future with Success
When Seeds in His Garden welcomes a child into the home from a referral from the government, it is preceded by the development of a history. That history is often painful for both parties as there is often a discovery of neglect that no child should ever experience.
Starvation due to poverty is common, but there is also starvation from simple neglect. Children who come with extreme malnutrition and literal starvation are often labeled as a victim of Kwashiorkor. This is not only painful for the child but also for those who must prepare for the issues surrounding the recovery period.
When we see a child with a full face and extended belly, lack of muscle mass and loss of hair and skin abnormalities, we take extreme care in the process of recovery. These children are already suffering from food deficiencies but they are also missing a key element in wanting recovery. Their self-esteem and trust is gone. Their desire at times to even eat is weakened and food becomes more of a chore.
