After many months and countless hours we have a SIHG site that is up. There are many things that still need attention, and we are advancing the site even further. WATCH! Changes are still happening! Still a few bugs to work out, and a bit of solid information and then, we are on our way!
We are working out some of the kinks and links with the help of some very special people. We have developed many options, ideas and worked on many platforms while learning architectures and their distinctions. All of this learning has brought an appreciation for those who have the patience and the skills to do this on a full time basis. From back-end to front-end and all the sides we have learned the lingo. Linda and I have viewed thousands of widgets and gadgets, modules, blocks, and strings. We have dabbled but mostly dribbled with HTML and css coding. We have templates and themes that seem to run together at some point. We have been duped by Drupla, pressed by Wordpress, had much doom and gloom over Joomla and we only dream about Dreamweaver. We have dealt with repetitive tasks of measurements of sliders, to winging it with pngs and biting our nails on thumbnails. There were many times that we had laughter, trying to figure out the differences between, Sucklefish Menu and Son of a Sucklefish, and Joomfish and Fisheye. It is true, the names of things, you just wonder about these computer geeks.
It never ceased to amaze us at all the language we had to pick up. Doctors of the net we applaud you as you continue to do a service for many. We thank those that were able to find OUR illnesses and give us the cure. We want you to know that although there is work ahead, you are appreciated for your patient support through this process.
The countless hours of multi-tasking, taking care of staff, children and volunteers, dealing with government meetings and working on the web, will bring a difference to those we serve.
David is in his final year at Baranton University, pursuing a degree in Software Engineering. He has been gracious to help us over the past six months as he seeks further funding to complete his degree. He has become part of the family here in more ways than one. He has certainly learned some things about Joomla and Wordpress, along with all their modules, components and plugins. He mostly writes things to the root for us when we do not like how things are working. He goes into the css and assists with things that have enhanced parts of the standard site. He has assisted us in uploading things that are not standard. And we changed templates for specific categories, then designed them in the Mac and then sent to him to place the files at the root so that you can experience the playful side of SIHG as well as the serious side. Everyone at SIHG are thankful for his participation and service to the home. We can expect great things from David in the years to come.
