Gabby had a difficult childhood herself, and while her story is still part of her life, she never let it interfere with the children here at the home. In fact, she took her hardships and the lessons she learned, how she faced them and conquered them to be successful and she shared with others. There was not a child in the home that did not immediately feel the attachment to her. This is rare as some find it difficult to let go of mistrust or issues relating to new people and their role in their lives.
Every day at SIHG carries challenges. Sometimes the stress of making the events all come together can bring frustrations. Gabby had a way of sharing her feelings always at an appropriate time and was able to process her emotions quickly before she returned to the work at hand and the children under her care. This was helpful to everyone to bring about a more productive and less stressful day. We are thankful for this type of volunteer. We are grateful for all that Gabby was able to accomplish in her short time here, and we look forward to her return next year.
